Washington, D.C. – Councilmember David Catania (At-Large) and Mayor Adrian Fenty will visit the So Others Might Eat (SOME) Dental Clinic to promote the District’s new dental benefit for adult Medicaid beneficiaries tomorrow. The benefit will cover approximately 60,000 Medicaid recipients who previously had no access to dental care. The Committee on Health added the services, which include many preventative and restorative treatments, to the city’s Medicaid program during the fiscal year 2007 budget process.
"This is a major achievement for the city,” said Catania. “There is a direct link between oral health and many other conditions such as heart disease, stroke, and diabetes.” Catania commended the Fenty Administration for making the dental care a top priority. The District’s Department of Health received approval from the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services in April. When: June 13, 2007, 11:00 a.m. Where: SOME Dental Clinic, 60 “O” Street, NW |
