Catania To Honor Police K-9 Unit That Assisted In Search And Rescue Efforts At Pentagon Print E-mail
WASHINGTON, DC...On Wednesday, November 21, 2001, at 10:30 am, Councilmember David Catania (R-At Large) will deliver dog treats and food to the MPD K-9 unit as a reward for their search and rescue efforts at the Pentagon after the terrorist attack of September 11, 2001. In addition, throughout the week, Catania will be delivering Thanksgiving baskets to needy District residents.

Two K-9 cadaver dogs, Harley and King, were the only dogs in the region to work with the Forensic Science Division in evidence recovery at the Pentagon. Councilmember Catania will deliver donated dog treats to Sgt. Darryl Barney (Harley's handler) at the MPD K-9 unit located at 4667 Blue Plains Drive, SW. The treats and dog food were donated by Three Dog Bakery, a Kansas City, MO company.

Catania already has honored the District's Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department, and the Metropolitan Police Department for their heroic efforts, along with others who assisted in the relief efforts in the aftermath of the tragedy at the Pentagon. On October 2, he presented three ceremonial resolutions to the D.C. Council to recognize and honor these District heroes. Present at that ceremony were Harley and King, along with over 80 members of the Fire and EMS Department and the MPD.

Councilmember Catania will be assisting in the distribution of Thanksgiving Baskets for needy residents at the following times and locations:

Tuesday, November 20:
Terrell Jr. High School, Recreation Center, 1000 First St. NW with Lawrence Thomas, Chairman, Shaw Community Center, 1 pm.
Southwest Public Housing Resident's Committee, James Creek Public Housing, 100 N Street, SW, 2 pm.

Wednesday, November. 21:
Safeway Annual Thanksgiving Basket Give-Away, Washington Convention Center, 11 am.
