How to Quit Smoking

The DC Tobacco Free Families is a partnership with the DC Department of Health, the American Cancer Society and the American Lung Association. Call the DC Quitline - 1-800-QUIT-NOW for more information on the DC Tobacco Free Families program. Also, visit the website for a list of DC Support Centers that offer cessation counseling, nicotine patches and lozenges.

Verinicline, commonly known as Chantix, is an FDA approved prescription drug used to help adults quit smoking. DC Medicaid recently added Chantix to its preferred drug list. For more information about Chantix, read the FDA Patient Information Sheet, and consult with your physician about the availability of this cessation drug through Medicaid.
