Excel Institute Receives Philanthropic Donation From Volkswagen Group of America
Washington, D.C. – Today, Councilmember David Catania joined representatives from the Excel Institute of Washington, D.C. and Virginia Governor Tim Kaine at the grand opening of the new headquarters of Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. in Herndon, VA. As part of the celebration, Volkswagen unveiled a philanthropic effort which included a major donation to Excel.
“I am thrilled by the donation and Volkswagen’s generosity,” said Catania. “The Excel Institute does incredible work, and the grant couldn’t have come at a better time.”
The donation amounted to more than $300,000 and included multiple automobiles for use in Excel’s auto skills courses. Earlier this month, Councilmember Catania reached out to Volkswagen on behalf of Excel which led to the donation. As former Chairman of the Committee on Public Services, Councilmember Catania was instrumental in the founding of Excel and has been a long time supporter of its mission.
The Excel Institute is a Washington, D.C. based post-secondary vocational training institution founded in 1997 by former Washington Redskin George Stark and Jack Lyon, CEO of Parking Management, Inc.
