Councilmember Speaks to Students About Holding Public Office in The District of Columbia
Washington, D.C. – Today, Councilmember David Catania (At-Large) addressed the Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service (SFS) undergraduate class at the Michael Jurist Distinguished Alumni Roundtable Series. Catania, who graduated from the SFS in 1990 before earning his law degree from the university in 1994, discussed his early influences and motivation for seeking public office. He took questions from students on a wide range of topics, including District voting rights, HIV/AIDS, and marriage equality.
“I am honored to have been asked to take part in the Michael Jurist lecture series,” said Catania. “I value the education and opportunities I received at Georgetown very much. To take the students’ questions and witness their enthusiasm was a real treat.”
The alumni series is designed to expose SFS undergraduate students to the outstanding accomplishments of the SFS alumni who return to share how their degree has afforded them opportunities in their personal and professional lives. Previous participants have included Major League Soccer President, Mark Abbott (SFS ‘86), Former Solicitor General of the United States, Paul Clement (SFS ’88) and U.S. Undersecretary of State for Democracy and Global Affairs, Paula Dobriansky (SFS ’77).
