Washington, D.C., - Later today, Councilmember David Catania (At-Large) will give the keynote address at D.C. Appleseed’s Annual Awards Dinner and Gala. DC Appleseed is a non-profit organization dedicated to solving important public policy problems that face the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan area. Catania will address leaders in the legal, health, business, academic, non-profit and government sectors.
“The theme for the evening, ‘Building a Healthier DC’ is the focal point of my Committee’s work,” said Catania. “As Chair of the Committee on Health, my number one priority is to expand access to affordable healthcare for our residents and to improve our historically poor health indicators. I look forward to speaking about the Committee’s work on these goals.”
Recently, the Council approved the Committee’s FY2010 budget which includes specific appropriations to expand access to health insurance programs for District residents; to support school-based health and mental services; to enhance HIV/AIDS prevention, primary care and support services; to improve the quality of substance abuse prevention, treatment and outreach services and to maximize the collection of federal revenue.
